Q+A
Getting to take these maternity pictures for Q and A felt like such a blessing. It always feels so special when couples allow me to take these intimate pictures for them, and it feels especially personal when it’s in the comfort of their own home. Not only is it a glimpse into their life and their dynamics, it provides such a relaxed environment where families can really be candid. It’s comfortable and familiar to them which makes everything flow in a beautiful way.
Q and A are welcoming their second child into the world with their two year old son, G. Now I have a background in working with children, specifically toddlers. They’re hilarious and so much fun to play alongside and learn with. But this was my first experience trying to photograph a toddler, which was a learning opportunity in its own. The biggest challenge for me was the language barrier; G speaks only in french! Which is the most adorable thing ever, even if I can’t understand a thing he says. My elementary school french did not save me however. So while Q and A were trying to wrangle G for some pictures, and I was trying to help, G and I just kept looking at each other, not sure what the other was even saying. Often it was him saying something and me wracking my brain for any response that he would understand. It was a lot of staring. But it was also so fun to just sit back and truly observe the family in their own element; lots of joking, lots of laughing, lots of fun. Little to no direction needed, which is leaves the images feeling so heartfelt and sincere.
It’s such a joyous time for Q and A with the arrival of their newest little bébé, and I can’t wait to meet the little one! And I promise I will be brushing up on my french before I see them next.
